I regret to have to report that the embargo on limestone still

continues (vide Consul-General's telegram 27. of 25th. September

to you on the subject). The Green Island Ce ent Company owing to

their inability to fulfil existing contracts and to enter into

new contracts will lose their business connection unless the pro-

-hibition is removed. I desire your good offices in aid of the

Company and associate myself with Consul-General Jamieson in the

matter.

The Wai Tu Pu, in answer to my continued representations reply in a note dated October 15th., maintain that the embargo upon line-

-stone only concerns stone unlawfully quarried. That vessels

detained had no permit to carry stone, hence were guilty of dis-

-obedience of regulations. That telegraphic advice from the Tu Tu made it clear that quarrying and export of stone were not prohibit-

-ed. To answer this communication I have asked Consul-General Jamieson for a full report, as up to date I have received telegraph -ic reports merely; these are necessarily insufficient for the purpose. The matter is being pressed by me verbally however.
